Pledge to be part of the solution
New research from HSE demonstrates that both employers & employees recognise that providing a safe workplace makes sound commercial sense. Workplace deaths have fallen over the last 30 years but thousands still die every year as a result of work-related accidents & ill health. Results also showed that 65% of employees said that good health & safety practices make them feel valued. The recession could make some workplaces more dangerous as many businesses will face pressure to cut spending on health & safety this year.
To show their commitment to keeping their workplace safe, businesses are being invited to sign up to the ‘Be Part of the Solution’ pledge where they promise to:
- Agree to play their part in reducing the numbers of work related deaths, injuries & ill-health in Great Britain.
- Call on employers to put health & safety at the heart of what they do & to take a common sense approach to health and safety.
- Commit to debunking myths around health & safety that trivialise the impact of injuries, ill health & deaths on individuals & their families.
- Recognise the importance of health & safety in difficult economic times & the dangers of complacency.
